Alfonso Lara

Alfonso C. Lara, a longtime resident of Davis, died Nov. 9, 2007 at Sutter Davis Hospital after a long illness. He was 80. Born in Holtville, CA (Imperial Valley) on July 9, 1927, his family moved to Guanajuato, Mexico, where he was raised. He eventually returned to the US with his wife, Antonia and settled in Davis, where they raised six children. He worked in farm labor for many years as supervisor for S-Y Farms and Los Rios Farms. He is preceded in death, in 1993, by his wife, Antonia. He is survived by six children: Emiliano Lara, and wife, Maria, of Davis; daughter Esther Lara, of Davis; Gilberto Lara, and wife Yolanda, of Elk Grove; Tony Lara, and wife Elvia, of Sacramento; Raul Lara, of Davis; Alfonso Lara Jr., of Piedmont, CA. He will be dearly missed by his nine grandchildren: Jorge Lara, and wife, Anna, of Woodland; David Lara, of Davis; Gilberto Jr., Marlon, Adrian and Lupita Lara, of Elk Grove; Rebecca, Luis and Christina Lara, of Sacramento.

A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B Street in Davis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. also at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Davis Cemetery.
