Ann Christine Thompson, 73, of Davis, California passed away on Sunday August 04, 2024.
She was born January 18, 1951 in Bakersfield, California, the daughter of Anton and Marie (Struempf) Poettgen. She grew up in Wasco, California with her sister and brother. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s College with a bachelor’s of science in psychology. While in college she met her future husband, Howard Pence Thompson. They were married August 18, 1973 at Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Los Angeles, California. They were married for 28 years until he passed away in 2001.
They moved to Morgan Hill, California before the birth of their first son, Brian Howard Thompson. Another son, Eric Robert Thompson, and daughter, Katherine Marie (Thompson) Zeck soon followed. She worked for the San Jose State University Foundation in Research Contracts and Grants until retiring in 2014.
She lived in Morgan Hill for 40 years before moving to Davis, California in 2017. She was an avid quilter. She loved making quilts for friends and loved ones. She loved being a mother and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She considered her family to be her greatest source of joy. She enjoyed preparing and hosting holiday meals for her family. Every year for Christmas she would bake cookies and make fudge and peanut brittle.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Therese (David) Greer of Bakersfield, brother Paul (Cindy) Poettgen of Bakersfield, son Brian Thompson of Woodland, son Eric (Pei) Thompson of Davis, daughter Katie (Steve) Zeck of Dixon, grandson Walker Thompson, granddaughter Ellen Thompson, and grandson Charlie Zeck. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint James Church in Davis, California, Wednesday August 21, 2024 at 10am. Burial will be at Davis Cemetery following the service. Flowers can be sent to Smith Funeral Home in Davis, California. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America or the American Cancer Society.
