On Wednesday, November 14th, 2018, Benjamin Cary Boyden, loving son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away at age 40.
Benjamin was born August 19, 1978 in Woodland, California. He attended Davis Senior High School prior to graduating from the Cate School in Carpinteria, California. Following Cate, Benjamin attended Amherst college where he received his BA magna cum laude in Economics and Sociology. Benjamin spent most of his working life with the Monitor Group (now Monitor Deloitte) recently serving as Chief of Staff for Deloitte Strategy and Operations’ innovation center.
Ben, as he was called by family and friends, loved sports at an early age. He excelled as a youth in soccer and baseball, and he continued a lifelong love of soccer that he shared with family and friends. His favorite team was Barcelona (“Més que un club”). Ben was also a voracious reader of myriad topics but always had a special place in his heart for the writings of David Foster Wallace – another Amherst graduate. Ben was never far from music either. He found special solace in the music of Bob Dylan, Wilco, and Townes Van Zandt.
Ben traveled the world extensively having set foot on six continents. On one of his last trips he brought back a universal message of love and light. To the core Benjamin was thoughtful, intelligent, and kind with a great sense of humanity. He loved deeply and was deeply loved.
Ben is predeceased by his aunt Kathy, cousin Brian, and is survived by his father and mother, Cary and Suzanne Boyden, sister Katy (husband, Christopher, children Blakely, and Bo), and brother Nathaniel (wife, Anne, children Lilah and Violet). The bookshelves (and hearts) of his nieces and nephew are full because of Ben, and they will read on in his name.
