Bertha “Betty” Ruth Roberts, 91, passed away on September 20, 2021 in Woodland, California. Betty was born on March 1, 1930 in Riverside, California, to Carl Lee and Virginia Malena (England) Grant. Betty shared wonderful memories of her summers spent with her sister and grandparents at Huntington Beach, Calif. Betty graduated from Poly High School in Riverside in 1947. Betty went on to graduate from Riverside City College in 1949, where she spoke often of her Latin studies. She was an amazing wordsmith.
Betty met the love of her life, Paul Roberts, while Paul was on shore leave at the end of the Korean War and visiting family near Riverside. They had a short courtship before getting married on October 26, 1954. Paul brought Betty back to his hometown of Woodland, California where they built their first home and raised their son and daughter. They would enjoy 62 years of marriage, rarely (if ever) being apart.
Betty worked for Woodland Production Credit (Farm Credit Assoc.) for 25 years, retiring in 1987. She also loved crafting. Her wood paintings and ceramic pieces were beautiful. Betty cherished being able to share her crafting artwork with her family and friends. Above all, Betty’s passion was spending time with her family, friends, and the dogs that she and Paul welcomed into their home over their many years.
Betty is proceeded in death by her parents Carl and Virginia Grant; brothers, Carl Ray and Jimmy Lee Grant; sister, Virginia “Dolly” Sue Nordyke; husband, Paul William Roberts; and her son, Eric Paul Roberts.
Betty is survived by her niece Shelley (Frank) Buschbacher; daughter, Margery (Tony) Delevati; grandchildren, Kerry (Chris Duffield) Roberts, Deanna (Daniel) Novack, Alex Delevati, Billie, Matthew, Emily, and Katie Roberts; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kaitlin Duffield and Mackenzie Novack; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
