Bridget was born on 20 September 1924 to Pauline S. and Frank H. Taylor of Kemmerer, Wyoming. After growing up in that small ranching and mining town, she graduated from UC Berkeley in 1946 with a degree in English. Bridget then taught briefly at a one-room school back in Wyoming, returned to California, married her husband Gordon L. Huntington in 1949, and ultimately settled in Davis in 1963. She and Gordon raised their family in Davis while she taught in its public schools (at Valley Oak and North Davis Elementary) and he taught Soils Science at UC Davis. Post-retirement, she spent time with family and friends, volunteering, and visiting China, Alaska, Ireland, Rome, and many less distant destinations with Gordon before he passed in 2002. Both were active parishioners at St. James Catholic Church. Bridget was an avid reader, a devoted cat-lover, and a quiet but committed sports fan who supported the San Francisco Giants and 49ers.After a period of declining health, Bridget passed away on 02 July 2024 in the Davis home where she had lived since 1963. She was 99 years old and getting frequent visits from family and her cat Lizzie, including on the day she passed. Bridget was preceded in death by Gordon, her daughter Margaret Anne (Peggy) Popp, and her brother Monsignor Charles Taylor. She is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Charles and Laura Huntington of Shady Cove, Oregon, and by her three grandchildren: William Popp Jr., Ryan Popp, and Bridgette Stone, all residents of Kemmerer. Her presence, support and optimism will be deeply missed. There will be a vigil with Rosary for Bridget at St. James Catholic Church (1275 B Street, Davis) at 6:30 pm on July 19, then a funeral service at Smith Funeral Home (116 “D” Street, Davis) at 9:30 am on July 20 followed by interment at the Davis Cemetery (820 Pole Line Road, Davis).
