Carlene Harriett Cobb of Davis, CA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, just shy of her 91st birthday. Born in Waterbury, CT, to Bessie (Myngheer) Bird and Carlton (“Bill”) Bird, Carlene dedicated many years of her life to work as a bookkeeper and accountant for the United Auto Workers (UAW).
Known for her intelligence and thoughtful demeanor, Carlene was a wellspring of practical and sage advice. Whether it was matters of life, career, or love, she consistently guided those around her towards doing the right thing. Her wisdom was complemented by her passion for bridge, where she excelled to become a Life Master, a testament to her strategic thinking and patience.
Upon graduating from Crosby High, Class of 1951, Carlene married George Cooley and moved to New York City. In 1967 she married Ernest Cobb and raised their family in Farmington, CT. Her personal life was rich with love and family. She is survived by her husband Ernest; her son, Glenn Cooley; daughter, Michelle (Andrew) Dowling; granddaughters, Caroline and Katherine Dowling, and Chelsey Cooley; and brother-in-law Nelson Santos. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregg Cooley; grandson, Sean Cooley; and her siblings, Carl and Floyd Bird, and Dianne Santos.
In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Those wishing to honor Carlene's memory may make contributions to the Salvation Army or St. Jude Hospital, causes close to her heart.
