Carol Jean Guyan, age 86, of Cordelia, CA passed away at North Bay Medical Center on May 25, 2019 after a long illness.
Carol was born April 17, 1933 in Orange, CA to Mabel and Henry Maier. She was the youngest of three daughters. After the Great Depression, her family moved to Oakland, CA. She shared fond memories of her childhood growing up there; shenanigans with her sisters, roller skating the slopes near her home in Piedmont, riding on the trolley to and from symphony practice with her cello, playing with her dog, Buddy.
In her teen years, her family moved to St. Helena, CA where she graduated High School and went on to work at the Bank of America helping to support her parents and put her sister through nursing school. In 1953, it was a girlfriend at the bank who asked Carol if she would like to come to dinner because she and her husband had a handsome, eligible bachelor from Cordelia by the name of Al Guyan whom they wanted her to meet. It wasn’t long before Al and Carol fell in love. They built a home together from the ground up, married on October 9, 1955, and started their life together. Greg came along 11 months later. Christy was born a few years after that.
Carol was not only a wonderful wife, mother, provider, and homemaker, she was an incredibly talented seamstress with a passion for fashion, art, and design. In addition to her career in banking and then accounting, she volunteered her time generously to many causes; among them the Cordelia Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary where Al was the volunteer Fire Chief for 30+ years.
Carol lovingly cared for and nurtured her mother, Mabel, and mother-in-law, Dahlia, in their later years. And yet, perhaps we will remember her best for the boundless love, kindness, caring and support she bestowed upon her children and grandchildren and the tenderness she shared with great-granddaughter, Olivia Jean.
Carol is survived by her loving and devoted family. Her husband, Albert; son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Teresa Guyan of Cordelia, CA; daughter Christy Guyan of Mill Valley, CA; grandson and his wife, Matthew and Sherrine Jellison; granddaughters Megan Guyan and Isabella Guyan and her great-granddaughter, Olivia Jean who will become a big sister in September; one niece, three nephews, and many other dear relatives and close friends.
