Cherry Y. Leung

d. January 6, 2025

Cherry Y Leung, of Davis, CA died peacefully at home at the age of 88 on January 6, 2025.

She was born in Japan in 1936, the oldest child of Kam and Dorothy Yan, but she and her family moved back to China before the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese war. She grew up during war time in Guangdong, China before moving to Hong Kong. After completing her secondary education in Hong Kong, she came to the US, where she earned a BS in Chemistry from UC Berkeley. After graduation, she worked for 34 years as a chemist and researcher, first with Kaiser, then for twenty years with the UC Davis Medical School, then finally with Eureka Laboratories until her retirement. After moving to Davis in 1970, she remained as part of the community until her death, living long enough to see her children and several grandchildren move back to the area.

As a founding member of Davis Chinese Christian Church, she devoted much of the last fifty years to caring for others in the church community. In her later years, much of the love and concern that she shared in earlier years was reflected back to her as others cared for her.

Cherry is survived by her husband Steve, her siblings Rose Jee, Philip Yan, and Victor Yan, her son David (with Vivian), her daughter Florence (with John), her grandsons Nathan (with Heather), Andrew, Michael, Zachary, and Benjamin, and two great grandchildren Autumn and Shepherd.

There will be a celebration of life service at the Davis Chinese Christian Church (536 Anderson Rd. Davis) on January 25th, at 1:00 PM.
