Dale Curtis Brewer, a 66-year resident of Winters, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2017. Born in Talihina, Oklahoma, on June 15, 1937, he was 80 years old.
Dale moved to Winters with his family in 1951. In 1957, he started working for Winters High School during his four years of high school. In 1960, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. After his service, he returned to work at Winters High School until his retirement in 1998.
He served the Winters Unified School District for 45 years, receiving numerous awards through the years. He was considered more than an employee by the district, and was frequently called upon to intercede with hundreds of students over the years, always treating them with the dignity and respect he felt they needed and deserved. He was looked upon as a respected substitute father, uncle and friend by many.
Dale was a pillar in the community and was honored as the Winters Youth Day Grand Marshal in 1980, and as Honorary Grand Marshal in 1999. He received the Theodore Winters Award in 2001 for his service to the community.
In 1986, Dale married the love of his life, Esther, and together they have lived in Winters for over 30 years.
Dale enjoyed gardening, hunting and shopping. He and Esther have been actively serving at Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville, where they began a puppet and drama ministry.
Dale is survived by his wife, Esther, and his three children, Michael, Joseph and Douglas; one brother, Don (Jean) Brewer of McAlester, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruby Brewer, and brothers, Bert and Phil.
