Douglas Lee Richter, 61, Carmichael, CA, passed away on March 23, 2016.
Doug was born in Peoria, IL on October 25, 1954 to Howard Alan Richter and Pauline Joyce (Stambach) Richter. The Richters lived in Hopkins, MN when he was young and moved to Mt. Prospect IL during his early high school years. In high school there, Doug was active as a gymnast and speed skater. He also loved skiing. His family moved to Sacramento, CA for his last years of high school at El Camino High School. After graduation, he attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He married Camile Smith in San Jose, CA on October 10, 1992. Shortly after they were married they moved to Louiseville, Colorado and lived there from 1993 through 1999. They relocated to San Jose, CA at the end of 1999 when Doug got a job at a start up company.
Doug received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Utah, a Masters Degree in Numerical Analysis from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982 and an MBA in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business in 1988.
Doug's career involved working at many startups, and also included employment at Apple, Storage Tech, KLA Instruments, and most recently Intel in Folsom, CA.
Doug had many interests. He had a black belt in karate, he loved flying airplanes, gambling in Las Vegas, running, skiing and hiking. He loved all animals and would put a spider outside before he would kill it. He loved to cook - especially hot Thai food - and at one time collected wine. He loved to look at the stars and recently was active in the Sacramento Valley Astronomical Society.
Doug is survived by his wife Camile, his brother Rick (Jody), his father-in-law Bill Smith, mother-in-law Mae, sisters-in-law Michele (Dan), and Carol (Terry), brother-in-law Brian (Cari), his nieces and nephews: Matthew (Christine), Justin (Sarah), Kristin (Justin), Lindsey (Chad), Mark, Josh (Kasia), Brandon, Kyle, and Brent. Also his aunt, Marie Phillips and cousins Lee Phillips (sons Matthew and Aaron) and Jill Chan (Dick,daughters Caitlin and Alicia), uncle Roy Richter, aunt Ruth Mundy, and cousins George Mundy, Pete Munday, Mark Mundy and Lorraine Harris. He is predeceased by his parents Howard and Joyce Richter.
A memorial will be held at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center, 2850 San Lorenzo Way in Carmichael on Friday, April 15 at 2:30 pm.
