Edith W. Rothchild passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008 at her home in Davis from complications of cancer and multiple system atrophy. Born July 11, 1929 in Norfolk, Virginia, she was 78 years old.
Edith grew up in Virginia and lived in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. She attended college at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. After college she met Donald Rothchild who was stationed in Virginia while serving in the Army. They soon married. Their life together was filled with loyalty and devotion and their love remained steady and deep throughout their lives. Edith travelled with Donald throughout the world. She shared with him this passion for travel as well as a love of food, classical music, ballet, and theatre. She was deeply committed to social causes and was actively involved in the civil rights struggle. She was a voracious reader and deeply knowledgeable of most literature. Edith worked most of her life in the social services field. After raising two children, she returned to graduate school and received a degree as a licensed psychotherapist. Later in life she immersed herself in watercolor painting. She won several awards at art exhibits. She was loved by many in the community and was surrounded by friends and family up until her death.
Edith is survived by her sons: Derek Rothchild and Maynard Rothchild and his grandchildren: Ian, Devon, Brooke, Logan and Liam.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road.
