Edwin Lee Symens of Davis died March 31, 2025 at Vacaville Medical Center from kidney cancer.
Ed was born at home at 411 1st street in Davis, Ca. on October 10, 1938. His parents were Percy Edwin Symens and Gladys Bernice (Kroeger) Symens. He graduated from Davis High School, went to Junior College for a year, then joined the army. While stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. he met and married a local girl and brought her back to CA. with him. Ed got an early out from the army to go to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo where he earned a Mechanical Engineering degree. After graduation he was hired by the State of California Department of Water Resources to design and/or fix existing pumping plants to get water to the southern part of the state. On weekends and some evenings Ed helped his mom run the shop making elastrators. When the shop was sold he got an evening job teaching Mechanical Drawing at American River College. Ed retired from the state in 1999. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends at Rancho Yolo. He also liked cribbage and RVing.
Ed is survived by Barbara, his wife of 64 years, a grandson Jayson Lamoree and wife Jennifer, 3 great grandchildren and a sister, Sandra in Bradenton, FL. He was preceded in death by a baby brother, Woodrow, his son John in 1978, a daughter Cindy in 2007, a son Robert in 2023. Also a sister, Christine.
