Galya Sosnick

February 19, 1929 — July 14, 2019

On July 14, 2019, Galya Sosnick passed away peacefully of natural causes.  She was 90 years old.

Galya is survived by daughters Beryl of Los Angeles and Elika of Ross, sons Randall of Mill Valley and Tobin of Chicago, and her five grandchildren Erin Sardo, Greer and Kira Rosenbaum, Loren Sosnick and Dorian Williams.  Her husband of 63 years Stephen Sosnick preceded her death by 5 years.

Galya was born on February 19, 1929 in Atlantic City, was raised in New York and moved to San Francisco with her family in 1949.  She received a degree in architecture from UC Berkeley, where she and Stephen met at a debate competition.  Galya designed numerous residential homes in Davis, including her own on Elmwood Drive in 1959.  She was also a long-standing member of the Design Review Commission of the City of Davis.

Galya was a very active member of the Davis community and of the Unitarian Universalist Church.  She volunteered with many groups, including STEAC (Short Term Emergency Aid Committee), a charitable organization that provides a critical safety net for those in need.  She was a frequent bridge player, a vociferous reader and a member of several book clubs.  Galya was also a talented artist and her paintings and flower arrangements were frequent award recipients at the Yolo County Fair.

In lieu of flowers, friends may send a donation in Galya’s honor to STEAC (www.steac.org).
