Helen G. McMahon

August 12, 1943 — December 27, 2024

Helen G McMahon passed away on December 27, 2024 in Las Vegas at the age of 81. She is survived by her daughter Shauna Caserta, son-in-law Craig Caserta and her grandson Michael. She is also survived by her sister Janet, brother-in-law Clell, nephews Derek and Craig. Helen was predeceased by her husband James of 42 years. 

She was born August 12, 1943 in Loma Linda, CA and grew up in Blythe, CA. Helen graduated from Palo Verde HS in 1961. She then attended University of the Pacific and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She graduated UOP in 1965 with a degree in Speech Therapy. She then got her teaching credential and moved to Escondido, CA and became a teacher in the Poway school district. This is where she met her husband James and they were married in April 1966. A few years later, they moved to Huntington Beach and had their daughter, Shauna in 1974. 

Helen. James, and Shauna moved to Santa Rosa in 1979. Helen became a teacher in the Cotati-Rohnert Park School District. She taught elementary, special education at Waldo Rohnert ES until she retired in 1999. She and James spent a lot of time at their cabin in Lake Almanor, CA which was one of her favorite places. James passed away in 2008 and Helen moved from Santa Rosa to Henderson, NV in 2012 to be closer to her family. 

 Helen loved her dog Max and all animals. She enjoyed reading Dean Koontz novels and watching sports, especially the 49ers and the Golden State Warriors. She loved her family very much and will be deeply missed.

A graveside service will be on Friday, January 17th at 1:15pm at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetary in Dixon, CA. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a memorial contribution to their favorite charity.
