Obituary for Helen Peterson Helen Peterson died on June 26th 2012 . She had lived with cancer for the past 3-1/2 years, but never gave up her fierce, fighting spirit or her joie de vivre, enjoying every day to the fullest. Helen grew up in the Bay Area and was an athlete from an early age, with swimming being her greatest love. She competed in high school and was a state champion in the backstroke. She married her husband Warren in 1945 and spent the next decades raising children and maintaining their home as a proud Air Force wife. They lived in many areas of the U.S., but they both loved their stay in Hawaii the most. Helen had many interests and hobbies, with gardening, traveling and watching her favorite teams (especially the San Francisco 49ers) at the forefront. Following her husband's death in 1971, she moved the family to Davis where she developed a beautiful flower garden that she continued to work in until her last days. She and her daughter began traveling to Europe in 1984 and continued the adventure annually. Helen especially loved the south of France. However, Helen's favorite destination was Las Vegas. Helen is survived by her daughter Kristine Peterson and her sons Scott Peterson, Lee Peterson, Robert Metzger and George Metzger. A private service was held on July 2, 2012 at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto where she was laid to rest beside her husband Warren.
