Jack Donald Douglass, 83, of Davis, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 at Courtyard Health Care Center. He had been an area resident for more than 40 years.
Jack was born October 27, 1924 in Ellwood City, PA to Roland and Evelyn Douglass. He was retired from The University of Calif., Davis, as a Steam Operating Engineer. He enjoyed fishing, skiing, hunting, spending time with his grandkids and sitting under the shade tree talking with his neighbors. During WWII, Jack was in the Army assigned to the 42nd (Rainbow) Infantry Division. Jack was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his heroism and extraordinary bravery. He was a true member of the Greatest Generation. Jack was a gracious and selfless man who made the world a better place. His sense of humor stayed with him until the end. So long Dad, (our Poppy). The family wishes to give its heartfelt thanks to his friends and caregivers at Courtyard Healthcare Center in Davis who took excellent care of him. He will be sadly missed.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Emily Douglass; 2 children: Doreen Stevens (Brad) of El Dorado Hills, Ca. and Dennis Douglass (Micki) of Rescue, Ca.; step-son, Alan Coma of Elk Grove, Ca.; brother Bob Douglass of Oregon; cherished grandchildren: Brian, Michael, Brandon, Ryan and Janene; great grandsons: Travis and Baby Jack.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Roland and Evelyn Douglass and brother, Sam.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Wiscombes Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D Street, Davis, CA.
