James (Jim) G. Fadel passed away on September 11, 2024, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim was born on July 4, 1948, in Wheeling, West Virginia, and grew up in Ohio.
He went on to earn three degrees, with a PhD from Cornell University. After several post-docs, he secured a faculty position at UC Davis Department of Animal Science and had a rewarding career of teaching and research for over 34 years, retiring in 2021. He met his wife at UC Davis, and they had two wonderful daughters. The family loved travelling and experiencing different sights and cultures.
Jim lived a satisfying life and unknowingly touching the lives of many people. If he were to be remembered for anything in life, it would be that Jim and his wife always put family first. If he were to be remembered for anything as a faculty, it would be that he always put students first.
He is grateful for the support of family and friends during his battle with two cancers: multiple myeloma in 2005 and pancreatic cancer in 2022.
Jim is survived by his wife, Arleen, two daughters, Monica and Emma, his son-in-law, Alex, and extended family members. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or to your favorite cancer organization.
