James Milligan

July 17, 1933 — January 1, 2010

James Jim Milligan, 76, of Davis, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 in Sacramento. He had been an area resident for almost 40 years. Jim was the beloved husband of Gerri Milligan and father of Gale Rotenberg of Shingle Springs. He is also the grandfather of Jennifer Lewis of Shreveport, Louisiana and Michael Vaage of Davis. Jim was born July 17, 1933 in Oakland, California and lived in Sacramento until 1970 when he relocated to Davis. Jim is an Army veteran, serving three years in Alaska.

Jims career in teaching included 10 years for the Grant Union High School District, one year in Live Oak and 25 years for the Davis Joint Unified School District. He also taught remedial math for the University of California, Davis for 20 years.

Jims love for trains led him to acting as a docent at the Sacramento Railroad Museum until open-heart surgery in 1998. He was a member of the Toy Train Operating Society and enjoyed the time he had with friends who shared the same passion.

Jim and his wife loved to travel, enjoying meeting people and learning about other cultures. Since his retirement in 1995, they traveled to many countries and made friends from around the world.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Wiscombe Funeral Home in Davis. Interment will follow at Davis Cemetery.
