Jan Carter

Jan Browning Carter passed away January 17, 2021 in the loving arms of his wife and daughters.  Born in New York City October 12, 1941, “J.B.” grew up in Long Beach, CA attending Long Beach City and State Colleges.  He played alto sax and was a lifelong fan of all kinds of music.   He served in the Coast Guard Reserve for 7 years.  He met his girlfriend for life, Barbara, on the road to Big Bear in 1963.  They married in 1964 and enjoyed 56 years together.  Jan and Barbara moved to Lodi, CA, in 1966 where Jan found work at Super Mold Corp.  After ten years in the industry, Jan founded his own business, Lodi Equipment, where he served as owner/CEO for the next 30 years.  He served as President and Director of the California Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association and was a 25-year member of NFIB, member of the Sacramento Valley Family Business Roundtable, and was a Trustee of Valley Vision.  An avid golfer, he served on the board of El Macero Golf Club, and was a founding supporter of the Mondavi Center.

Jan enjoyed many happy years of retirement, golfing, traveling, and dividing his time between homes in Davis and Richmond, VA.  He and Barbara enjoyed driving across the country for many years in their motorhome.  To balance out all this fun he volunteered for Yolo County Food Bank and Woodland Senior Center’s Community Car Service.

Jan Carter was a visionary and an optimist who always saw the glass as half full.  He had a great zest for life and was filled with gratitude for a life well lived.  His favorite saying was “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”.  Left behind to remember him with love are his wife, Barbara, his daughters Kelly & Julie, and his grandchildren Maggie, Emma, Kiersten, Fred, and Naomi.  He also leaves his faithful dog, Rosie, who did not leave his side.   A celebration of his life will be postponed because of the Covid crisis.
