Joan Meredith Turcotte November 29, 1931 - August 5, 2015
Joan Meredith Turcotte, 83 of Davis, passed away peacefully at the University Retirement Center in Davis on August 5, 2015. She was born November 29, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Edward H. Luecke and Agnes M. Kerzman, and grew up in Riverton, New Jersey. She met her husband to be, Donald Turcotte, while on a short trip to California, and they were married on May 17, 1957 in Pasadena. They spent 45 years in Ithaca, NY where her husband was on the faculty at Cornell University. They moved to Davis in 2002 where her husband ended his career at U.C. Davis.
Joan worked as a librarian and a real estate agent. She was an accomplished pianist and artist. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends, and had many unique experiences accompanying her husband to meetings all over the world, including six sabbatic leaves at Oxford University in England. She was an animated companion, and cared deeply for her friends and family. She was always interested in her siblings and their children's lives, her friends and their families, as well as being an involved mother and grandmother. She had an endearing sense of humor that stayed with her to the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother-in-law Anthony Donato. She is survived by her husband Donald L. Turcotte, her brother Edward Luecke (Joanne) of Montrose, PA, sister Patricia Donato of Wellesley, MA, and her children, Phillip (Jackie) of Edmonds, WA and Stephen (Justine) of Rexburg, ID as well as eight grandchildren.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff and her many friends at the University Retirement Center in Davis, and to Yolo Hospice for all of the love and care shown to their mother. Her beloved granddaughter Catherine and loving husband Donald worked together to care for her.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August, 10 at St. James Catholic Church on 1275 B St. in Davis, CA. Burial will be in the Davis Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Davis, CA.
