Kalman Clyde Ariola, 83, passed away peacefully on Labor Day, September 4, 2017, surrounded by family.
Kalman was born on October 13, 1933 in Oak Creek, CO to Clyde and Dorphine Ariola. He spent his childhood in Yampa, CO until the family moved to Oregon. Kalman attended Willamette High School in Eugene where he lettered in baseball, basketball, track, boxing and football and met his future wife, Janice Christensen. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the war.
On August 20, 1955, Kalman and Janice were married at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eugene.
Kal attended Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, OR and was trained in Refrigeration and Electrical Appliances Servicing. He was a Service Technician and Manager for companies like Reed’s Appliances, Philco – Ford, Modern Maid, Litton and Sierra Select Distributing.
Kalman’s work brought the family to Edmonds, WA, to Whittier, CA and finally to Davis in 1974.
Kalman spent most of the next 43 years in Davis supporting his family in one way or another. His great love for sports made it natural to take a big interest in the Davis High Baseball team and facilities of which he was a great supporter. In recent years, he enjoyed his daily walks to downtown Davis and the Davis Train Station.
Kalman is preceded in death by his siblings Delbert and Cheryl and by his wife of 62 years, Janice Ruth Christensen.
Kalman is survived by his sister Rozella Kleven of Edmonds, WA, brother-in-law Ronald Christensen of Edmonds, WA, and three children Kenneth Ariola of Tucson, AZ, Daniel Ariola of Davis, CA. and Amy Lee of Monroe, CT. He was a dedicated grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Angela, Ryan, John, Joseph, Hannah, Alexander, and Ethan and three great grandchildren, Gracia, Trevin and Ahsunte. He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
There will be a graveside service for family and friends on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2 pm at the Davis Cemetery.
Memorial funds may be made to Davis High School Baseball at 315 W. 14th St.
