Kevin Dougherty

Kevin R. Dougherty, Davis, CA, 64, passed away April 21, 2016 in California. Kevin was born in Frankfort, MI to Robert and Bonnie Dougherty growing up in an Army family; he spent his childhood traveling the world. He lived in Greece, Turkey, Italy, and France. Upon returning to the U.S. he spent a couple of years in Washington DC. Upon his father's retirement from the Army, the family moved to Davis, CA. His high school years were spent running cross country and track at Davis High School where he set and even broke records. He went on to Fresno State University where he continued his running career and again set new college records. He joined ROTC and upon graduation began serving in United State Air Force as an Officer. His first assignment was as a Navigator/Bombardier on the FB/111 stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, NY. He married Lori Bender and had Sarah his first child all in New York. The next assignment was to Mather AFB, CA where he served as an Instructor of future navigators. He also had his second child, Andrew. He always joked a child on each side of the U.S. He left active duty at 10 years of service and then joined the Air Forces Reserves at McClellan AFB, CA to pursue the History and Accounting Departments. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. Also while in the Reserves he worked with his father in the delivery business of newspapers, especially the San Francisco Chronicle. In his free time he continued running and followed his two children's athletic endeavors which also included running following his footsteps at Davis High. His true enjoyment besides his family was walking the beach at Pt. Betsie in Michigan looking for Petoskey stones. Kevin continued to be involved in his children lives and then with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Lori; two children Sarah and Andrew Dougherty; two grandchildren Addison and Owen Chownyk; brother Steve (Mary) Dougherty and niece Michele Bento. Memorial service will be held at 11AM Wednesday May 11 at Smith Funeral Home, Davis, CA. Contributions in memory of Kevin may be made to a charity of one's choice.
