Maria (Bambit) Aurora Mananquil was born the youngest of three children to Irineo Salayog Barrozo and Aurora Calimquim Barrozo in the Philippines on May 20, 1959. Maria passed away peacefully at the age of 61 on March 19, 2021 at the University of California Davis Medical Center (UCDMC) in Sacramento after complications from a long term illness.
Maria is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Rizaldy Mananquil, children Mariza and Kyle, mother Aurora C. Barrozo, sister Donna Marie Barrozo, sister Lourdes Barrozo (Lorenzo Ajel), and nephew and niece Marc and Hillary (Martin Posadas).
Maria and her family moved to Davis, California from Sacramento in October 2001. In August 2002, Maria contracted a very rare and serious nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infection that had no known medical cure. Through prayers from family and friends, and the steadfast dedication from the UCDMC staff, she was able to get approval for treatment at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. She and Rizaldy made quarterly trips to NIH for the first seven years of treatment until her condition stabilized and only required annual visits.
Throughout Maria’s life, she continued to remain strong in faith, resilient in life, and devoted to her family. She was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Davis and in 2005 made a Religious Pilgrimage through France, Spain and Portugal with her family. She was an avid member of the local Yolo Pinoy (formerly FilAm) group and enjoyed singing karaoke, dancing, and shopping for the best deals. Maria will be remembered by many for her vivacious personality, unique sense of humor, and welcoming smile.
Maria Mananquil will be gravely missed, always loved and forever remembered.
