Marilyn Lee Vaughn passed away very peacefully at Gloria’s Country Care in Woodland. After being diagnosed with congestive heart failure and pneumonia (old age), Marilyn spent a couple of days in hospice care at Gloria’s, being visited by grandchildren and listening to her son read “Chicken Soup for the Soul”.
She was born Marilyn Lee High to Lee Marie (Cottle) & Julias Edward High on February 8, 1935 in Tulsa Oklahoma. Her mother died when Marilyn was 13 of leukemia. She was then adopted by her aunt, Velma (Cottle) & uncle, Ben Musick, in Kingfisher OK.
Marilyn attended Oklahoma University where she got her R. N. degree. She worked as a registered nurse until she left her profession to raise her children, Audrey, Ben and Joe.
She and her husband Neil Vaughn moved to Davis in 1961 with then-young Audrey & Ben. Joe came along in 1967 to the boisterous, bed-jumping response of Audrey & Ben.
Neil became a well loved doctor to the small town of Davis and U.C.D.’s students. Marilyn, progeny and community were robbed by his premature death in l985. Marilyn remained “married” to Neil for the rest of her life.
She was active in a variety of local and national organizations and spent the last half of her life as “Gramme”, to Ben’s 3 kids, Jamaica, Hannah & Neil and Joe’s son, Michael.
Marilyn was an integral part of an ageing generation of Davisites which, now with her passing, is growing quite small.
A private graveside service will be held at Davis Cemetery.
The family asks that, instead of flowers, donations be made to STEAC or one of your choice.
