Mary Ellen Stein of Woodland CA, formerly of El Macero, CA passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at her home. She had been an area resident for 45 years.
Mary was born February 3, 1920 in Providence Rhode Island to Annie and Frederick Waldraff. She had lifelong love of reading and fine arts Mary instilled that love in her children who grew up to share her love of reading and art in all forms. Mary was caring to all who needed special attention particularly those who were alone and without the loving support of family. She was known for her tenacity and determination. She was proud to be part of the WWII war effort as part of the Rosie the Riveter work force. She was a member of the Mother of Twins Club, the Womens Auxiliary Submarine Veterans Association, as the spouse of a WWII sub vet., member of St. James Parish, in Davis Ca, Guild member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Modesto, CA and a dedicated supporter and volunteer for Yolo County Mental Health Assoc.
Mary was preceded in death by her Parents; sons: Raymond Wesley Stein and Kenneth Stein; brother, Raymond F. Waldraff and sister, Alice McCann.
Mary is survived by her husband of 66 years, Raymond O. Stein; children: Virginia Simi, Karen Stein, Christina Dal Porto, Cynthia Stein Dailey, Stephen Stein; sister A. Virginia Waldraff; grandchildren: Regina Jackowiak, Patrick Simi, Jason Dal Porto, Genesee Dal Porto, Wesley Stein, Nicholas Stein; great Grandchildren: Danielle Jackowiak, Steven Simi, Genevieve Jackowiak, Emily Simi; nieces and Nephews: Adele Merriman, Kathleen McGuane, Robert Waldraff, Tom McCann, Paul McCann, Mary Jane Moraise, Laurel Stolpe, Eric Stolpe
A Rosary will be recited Friday, August 21, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. at Wiscombe Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James, Catholic Church in Davis CA Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 9:30 AM followed by interment at Davis Cemetery, (820 Pole Line Rd) Reception to follow at the St, James Parish Hall
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marys memory to NAMI of Yolo County or Hospice.
The family would like to send a special Thanks to: Patricia Wong and other nurses and nurses aids from Yolo Hospice, the Care Givers at the Palm Gardens, Carol Paxton with Maxim and especially to Maria Gallart for all the personal care and support she provided to Mary during her difficult ordeal.
