Nancy Welch

October 1, 1943 — March 5, 2018

Nancy Jeanne Welch died peacefully at her home in Davis, following a stroke on March 5, 2018.  Nancy was born in Charleston, SC, and moved to Davis with her parents, Polly and Ted Welch in 1947.  She graduated from Davis High School in 1961 and UC Davis in 1965.

Nancy worked for the Social Security Administration for close to 40 years in offices in Sacramento, Marysville, and Spokane, WA.  She truly enjoyed helping her clients navigate the system and serving their needs.  Nancy lived primarily in Davis, although she spent 20 years living in the beautiful mountains near Sandpoint, Idaho.

She loved the outdoors, and hiking throughout the world with her friends.  These destinations included South America, Europe, New Zealand, as well as well as many National Parks in the US.  Her close knit group of Davis High friends would meet yearly near Bend, Oregon for campouts, as well as reunion trips to Reno.  She was an avid walker and exercised daily because she truly enjoyed being fit.

Nancy was a strong, independent, person and kept her own counsel.  She cared little for material things for herself, but was extremely generous to others.  She felt a very special bond to her nieces and nephew. She always wanted to hear of their adventures and what was happening in their lives.

Her caring attitude and positive energy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, Ted Welch.  She is survived by:  mother, Polly Welch of Davis, brother, Jim Welch (Andrea) of Fresno, sister, Wendee Smith (Doug) of Davis, nieces Rebecca Welch (Bob Macon) of Seattle, Amanda Smith of Seattle, Kent Welch (Diane) of Madison, OH, and dear friend and traveling partner, Agnes Sawyer of Davis.

Nancy’s family wishes to thank her supportive neighbors and the wonderful folks at Apex Care.  No service will be held.  If you wish to make a donation, Nancy was a supporter of the ALS Society and Yolo Hospice.
