Richard Alexander Cooper, a Davis resident since 1982, died Sunday, June 16, 2024 after a brief illness. Born January 27, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of Richard Nathan and Sarah Spivey Cooper. He is survived by his wife Janice, his son Justin, grandchildren Ian and Helen, and sister Carol. Richard was a graduate of Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a member of the history faculty at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington from 1972 to 1982, then was a lecturer in the Departments of History and Humanities at California State University at Sacramento for over 30 years, retiring in 2014. His interests were in modern European history, from English financial policy at the time of the Napoleonic wars to the twentieth century and events leading to World War Two.
