Mr. Robert Stafford Cooper, a longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023. He was born to Viva Louise Stafford and Dale William Cooper on October 20, 1938 in the small town of Green Forest, Arkansas.
He graduated from West Point U.S. Military Academy in 1962, the year that John F. Kennedy was the graduation speaker.
In 1968, he married the love of his life, Paulette Barth Cooper, and they were married for 54 years and had two daughters.
He is survived by: his wife, Paulette Barth Cooper, his 2 daughters, Heather Pich and Holly Cooper, his 4 grandchildren, Samuel J. Cooper Stern, Oscar H. Cooper Stern, Lauren Pich, and Cooper Pich, his sister, Gail Tolleson, and his 2 son-in-laws, Clarke Pich and Joel Stern.
He lived a Christian life by volunteering with incarcerated youth, tutoring children in math, assisting with the resettlement of refugees in the USA, and providing access to clean water to refugee camps in Sudan. He is best remembered floating down the Buffalo River to visit Jimmy Driftwood or knee deep in the blue bonnets under his favorite oak tree. He was respected and loved by all.
He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (later AT&T) as an engineer and manager for over thirty years.
The family was able to say goodbye to him and are in peace, knowing that he is returning home to his Heavenly Father and is now with his mother, father, and sister, Sue Cooper Towns.
The family appreciates all those who have enriched Robert’s life and is grateful for all the love, support, and prayers of his friends.
There will be no viewing of the body or a funeral. Instead, there will be a celebration of his life among friends and family on September 2, 2023 in Woodland, California.
