It is with great sorrow and sadness that Smith Funeral Home announces the passing of our comfort dog, Spike.
Spike was born in June 2012 and came to Vera as a rescue August 27, 2013, although we all know who really rescued who. His amazing personality allowed him to become a comfort dog, where he gave many people a small ray of sunshine in a very difficult time. He was often described as an "old soul".
Spike was a great companion who brought smiles, joy and comfort to all he met, whether it be at the funeral home, on his daily walks through the arboretum or around town and to the many businesses in Davis who kept dog treats (he knew EVERY location). He never met a person he didn't like, or who didn't like him. In fact, even "non-dog" people came to love and adore him. How could they not with that scruffy fur, big brown eyes and bright smile?!
In honor of Spike's memory, please perform at least one act of kindness to another person. Help put a smile on thier face, just as Spike did for so many others.
