Valda Rhea Shows, 84, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011. She had been an area resident for 54 years.
Valda was born July 5, 1926 in Mississippi to Crista and William Thompson. She was a homemaker, who then, after raising her two sons, Glenn and Eric, went back to college. She taught for the Sacramento Unified School District for 20 years. Valda loved traveling the world, and only stopped after her husband, Gavin, got too ill to travel. She volunteered for the Sutter Hospital Auxiliary, doing the newsletter for the hospital. Valda was also active in playing Bridge and enjoyed many luncheons with her life-long friends. She enjoyed many family reunions and was a great mom to her to two sons.
Valda was preceded in death by her husband, Gavin and son, Eric.
Valda is survived by her son, Glenn (Corinne) Shows of Vacaville; granddaughter, Kelly (Brendan) McFarlan; great-granddaughter, Leia McFarlan; sisters: Elsie (Ben) Pickering and Faye (John) Manning; sisters-in-law: Betty Smith and Arnell (Ken) Steele as well as numerous nieces nephews and other extended family.
Graveside services were held at Davis Cemetery.
