Vera L. Gilmore was born in Altamont, CA on Sept. 17, 1907. She married just after her high school graduation to her sweetheart, Thomas J. Gilmore. They were married over 70 years when he died in May, 1997. They moved to Davis during WWII for Tommies work for Southern Pacific, and Vera got a job driving a truck for the Army. She later worked at the UCD Student Health Center as a cook, a Tupperware manager, and as a taster for the Food Sciences department at UCD. She was a second generation member of the International Order of Rebekah Assemblies for most of her life.
She passed peacefully on January 27, 2009 having met her goal of living to be at least 100. She enjoyed life and her incredible spirit will be missed. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Ted Scott, of Alamo, CA, and her granddaughter, Karen Scott . Funeral services will be held at Wiscombes Davis Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 2 at 10:30 am.
