Walter William Greb June 9, 1929-September 20, 2009
Walt Greb passed away at home on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the age of 80.
Walt was born in Orland, California June 9, 1929, to Lena and Oliver Greb. Walt spent his younger years in the Philippines, Hong Kong and main land China where his father was a mining engineer. His family moved to Yolo County in 1942. He served in the California National Guard, Battery B Field Artillery.
Walt moved his young family to Davis in 1968. He worked most of his career in the Sheet Metal Department, Physical Plant, U. C., Davis. He was a past member of the sheet metal and ironworkers unions.
Walt loved road trips and bragged of having seen all fifty states. He was a SCUBA instructor and founding member of the U. C., Davis SCUBA control board. Walt was a member of the U. C., Davis Half Century Club. He was the neighborhood fixit man, always lending a hand.
Walt is survived by members of his loving family: his beloved wife, Karen of Davis; his daughters Deborah Greb-Ferris of Sacramento, Doreen Greb (husband Paul Clark) of Davis; granddaughter Nicole Greb of Lathrop; grandsons Joseph Slichter (wife Vanessa Casarez), Zachariah Alfred both of Davis, Richerd Wright of Placerville and Tyler Holland of Rocklin. He is also survived by daughters Linda Greb (husband Neil Elder) of Bangor, and Kimberly Borchers (husband Eldon) of Woodland; son Douglas (wife Mary) Greb of Esparto; grandsons Daniel and David Greb, Jason Stevens and Jared Borchers; his sister Barbara (husband Walter) Anders of Lancaster; and numerous nieces and nephews. His sister Christeen Waters preceded him in death.
The family wishes to thank Kaiser Permanente Hospice for their care and support.
